Bedford Fire Company / Department
Our Mission
The Bedford Fire Department recruits, trains and manages local volunteers to respond to fire, rescue and EMS emergencies within the Bedford Village Fire District and surrounding towns via mutual aid. It is a single-company fire department under the municipal control of the Bedford Village Fire District. It was formed as a company in 1923 and incorporated in 1927 as a not-for-profit organization.
The fire, rescue and EMS operations of the company are managed by a team of line officers, headed by the Chief of Department who is elected each year by the active members of the department. Other operational officers are also elected annually, including two Assistant Chiefs, two Captains and five Lieutenants.
Executive functions of the department are managed by executive officers headed by the President, with oversight from a Board of Directors. In addition to the President, executive officers include a Vice President, a Treasurer, a Financial Secretary, and a Company Secretary. Executive Officers are elected annually by the members of the Company. Board Directors are elected for staggered 3-year terms.
